Utility Savings

Setting your thermostat for heating a few degrees cooler in the winter and keeping the temperature setting for the air conditioning a little higher in the summer can reduce your utility bills significantly.

Wear seasonal clothes in the house. A sweater in the winter or light clothing in the summer will reduce the need for air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter.

Replace high wattage light bulbs with energy saving light bulbs.

Use weather stripping around doors and windows.

Use caulk or foam insulation in any areas of your house that may be letting in cold air from the outside.

Insulate your attic.

Trees and bushes around your home will lower utility bills by shading your house from the summer sun and blocking the winter winds.

Check for drips and slow leaks in your home and repair these conditions.

Lowering the temperature on your water heater will save money on the energy bill.

Turn off the TV and lights when not using them.
