Recreation and Entertainment Savings
A video rental cost much less than theater tickets. Popcorn or snacks prepared at home costs less than those sold at the theater.
Check your newspaper for community-sponsored events that are free to the public can save you money on entertainment/recreational expenses.
Entrances to most museums are at low or no cost.
Use your local library instead of purchasing books. Libraries are also an excellent source of learning programs for your children, and the programs are free. You can also check out videos from the library at no charge.
Swap used items such as books, CDs, videos, and console games with friends, relatives and neighbors who will use them and let you have their used items in return.
Bake cakes and cookies at home for birthdays and family events.
Having family events at home saves money for everyone and allows extended family members to contribute to the meals.
Limit the number of times you eat out, including fast food restaurants and coffee shops. Preparing meals at home is less expensive and an opportunity for the family to spend time together.
Exercise at home instead of joining a gym.
Do not renew newspapers or magazines subscriptions that you do not read.
